As a spiritual teacher and guide for over 25 years, I still find it absolutely fascinating when the universe speaks to me. Sometimes it’s a sign that confirms an intuitive thought, a song that plays at just the right moment, or even a physical sensation that lets me know that angels, guides, or ancestors are near. These moments are not coincidences—they are whispers from the universe, reminding us that we are always supported, guided, and deeply loved.
One of the most profound ways I have experienced this divine communication was in my own journey through grief. Losing both of my parents within a year and four months of each other was one of the most challenging times in my life. No matter how much we understand that life never truly ends—that we simply transition into another form—it doesn’t make the longing for our loved ones any easier. I miss my mom and dad every day, but I have found deep comfort in the ways they continue to show up for me through signs from the universe.
The other day, after a full schedule of working with clients and getting my son off to basketball practice, I found myself alone in the kitchen. Wanting to unwind, I told Alexa to play some music. Typically, she plays a mix of Pink—my usual go-to—but this time, she played an old song from the 1950s, one that immediately reminded me of my dad.
My father was a huge fan of Motown, and as kids, we spent countless joyful moments singing and dancing with him in our living room. At first, I thought it was odd. This isn’t the music I asked for, I thought. Then, in a moment of longing, I spoke aloud, Dad, I miss you. Where are you?
Just as I finished speaking, the song changed. The new title appeared on Alexa’s screen: "Johnny B. Goode."
I stood there in shock, then laughter, then tears. My father’s name was John. In that moment, I knew—without a doubt—that he was right there with me in the kitchen, having fun just as he always did. He found the perfect way to let me know he was near, using music as his messenger.
The universe is always communicating with us, guiding us, and reminding us that we are not alone. There is nothing particularly special about me—I have simply spent years practicing how to see, listen, and trust the messages around me. But here’s the truth: you can do this, too.
We are all here to learn, to evolve, and to deepen our connection with the divine. The universe wants to partner with you, guide you, and support your journey. All it takes is an open heart and a willingness to notice the signs.
If you’re ready to start recognizing the messages meant for you, here are some ways to open yourself to divine guidance:
Pay Attention to Repeated Patterns – If you keep seeing the same numbers, and symbols, or hearing the same phrases, don’t ignore them. These are signs meant just for you.
Listen to the Music Around You – Songs carry messages. If a certain song plays unexpectedly or resonates deeply, pause and reflect—what is it telling you?
Ask and Expect an Answer – Just like I did with my dad, you can ask the universe, your guides, or loved ones in spirit to send you a sign. Then, trust that the answer will come in a way you’ll understand.
Tune Into Your Body – Sometimes, a physical sensation—a sudden chill, a warm embrace, a gentle touch—can be a sign that spiritual energies are near.
Keep a Signs Journal – Write down any unusual or synchronistic experiences. Over time, you’ll start to see patterns in how the universe speaks to you.
Trust Your Intuition – The more you acknowledge and believe in the signs, the stronger your connection will become.
The universe is always whispering. The question is: are you ready to listen?
Let me know—have you ever received a sign from the universe?
